About Us

In March 2017, our founder Melissa stumbled across 2 lovely acres of Mangawhai clay and kaikuyu for sale. As she walked up through long grasses to the highest point on the section, it was clear that this was the place to rest and germinate the dream of nature school.

From 2017, nature school grew, from 4 beautiful whānau to 41! Wonderful teachers arrived in wonderful ways. Shelters and spaces grew and improved. A magnificent tool collection was donated. A wharenui was built with so much love. Gardens grew and trees were planted. A proper workshop was planned. More gardens too. Our vision of a humming, happy nurturing space for our community is materializing.

We are very happy to share our expertise (including degrees in Education, Teaching, Outdoors and Sports; Early Childhood Teaching qualifications; and around 50 years combined teaching experience) with your children. We know they will teach us a lot.
We all hold deep love and appreciation for Nature and a desire to nurture your child’s relationship with te taiao, the natural world.
