Nau mai, haere mai! Welcome to Mangawhai Nature Education!

From our place, we look to the beautiful island Taranga resting to the east, and Pukekaroro, the maunga tapu to the west.
Te Paeroa, a range of beautiful hills, rides the horizon to the north, and Mangawhai harbour holds us in the south.

We are dedicated to self-knowledge, to competence and to nurturing relationships. We provide a safe
space with unlimited opportunities for children aged 5 and older to find joy and satisfaction in these
creative processes. We see how a sense of belonging and inner confidence grow strong.
We treasure our stories and acknowledge their power to link us to our past, and to provide guidance for
our future. We acknowledge Papatūānuku Earth Mother as our Teacher. We love to learn together and from each other too.

Tēnei te mihi nui ki te tangata whenua o te rohe nei, Te Uri o Hau, te hunga pupuri i te mana o te whenua.

We aspire to uphold the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and are on a learning journey, building knowledge and relationships which connect us with te ao Māori.

We aspire to expand our knowledge and use of te reo and tikanga Māori - we include waiata, karakia and mihi throughout our day.

We use the Maramataka developed by Heeni Hoterene to talk to tamariki about some of the rhythms of our natural world. We’re learning about the phases of the Moon and how they relate to gardening and fishing.

Term Time

During term time, our outdoor education program offers a mix of home-educator support and one-day school sessions for children aged 5 years and up. Our program runs from 9 am to 3 pm daily and provides a unique way to learn and grow in nature. With our experienced team, your child will build important life skills, explore their environment, and have fun while doing it! To join us, send an email to find out more!

Holiday Programme

Our school holiday sessions are a chance for your child to experience full immersion nature, craft and fun! We introduce children to many materials and processes, and give them time and support to learn a new skill if they are interested to do so. They also have time to relax and unwind from busy routines, to climb a tree, play with friends and paddle in our ponds. Unforgettable memories are forged, and often new friendships too.
